| 2001-02 Schedule/Results Northeastern 2, Boston College 1
CHESTNUT HILL, MA – Northeasetrn completed the weekend sweep of Boston College with a 2-1 victory on Sunday night at Conte Forum. NU improves to a perfect 8-0-0 on the season and 4-0-0 in the ECAC, while BC drops to 1-6-0 overall and 0-6-0 in conference play. Northeastern came out strongly in the first period and held a decisive territorial advantage. It took the Huskies only a few minutes to have their first true scoring chance, as junior Michelle Lorion (Mississauga, Ont.) found herself all alone in front of BC goalie Lisa Davis for what seemed to be an easy score. The freshman netminder, however, had other ideas, flashing her right pad and knocking the shot to the side boards. The Huskies continued to press and at the 7:19 mark found an opening. Senior Brooke Whitney (Snohomish, Wash.) took a pass from freshman Bekka Lass (Havre, Mont.) skated out in front of the Eagle goal and fired a backhand shot on net. Davis made the initial save, but the rebound bounced directly back to Whitney, who slammed the puck into the net, giving Northeastern a 1-0 lead. Northeastern held that 1-0 advantage at the first intermission. The Eagles came out flying in period two and held their strongest offensive period in five games. It took the homeside only three minutes to knot the score. Freshman defender Sarah Carlson picked up a weak clearance pass at the point and fired a blistering slapshot on Husky goaltender Chanda Gunn (Huntington Beach, Calif.). Gunn made the initial save, but a scrum ensued in front of the net and Kelly McManus was able to get control of the puck and bang it into the net at 3:08. Carlson was credited with the lone assist on the play, her first career point at Boston College. From there the two sides battled back and forth in a very entertaining period. The Huskies proved to be very opportunistic with their chances. At 10:09, Whitney found herself unmarked in the right face off circle to roof a rebound past Davis to give the Huskies the lead. The goal, assisted by Lass and junior Kim Greene (Everett, Mass.) would prove to be the gamewinner. Although both teams were held scoreless in the final frame, the period was not without its share of drama. Leading 2-1 with just over ten minutes to play, Northeastern had their best chance of the night when junior Brooke White (Berkeley, Calif.) broke through the Eagle defense on a 2-on-0. White received a beautiful pass from Lorion and seemed to have the entire net to shoot at. Davis, however, stuck out her left pad and thwarted an almost certain goal. Minutes later, with the Eagle goalie pulled, the home side had their best chance to send the game into overtime. At 18:58, senior Jaclyn Kryzak (Alamont, N.Y.) fired a shot on net. The puck bounced off Gun’s shoulder and fell behind the goaltender. Eagles and Huskies crashed the net in a battle to get to the loose puck. Gunn fell on the puck inches from the goalline, forcing a faceoff. For the game, Northeastern outshot BC 25-22. Gunn earned the victory with 21 saves while Davis, making 23 saves. The Huskies return to action on Friday at Quinnipiac.
