BOSTON, MA - The Northeastern women's hockey team defeated Boston University 8-0 on Tuesday night in the consolation game of the 24th annual women's Beanpot.
Freshman Liane Dixon (Vineyard Haven, MA) led the way for Northeastern with a hat trick.
The Huskies scored four times in the opening period beginning with a goal by Jess Judge (Rowley, MA) at 2:22, assisted by Michelle Lorion (Mississauga, ONT). NU then added three more goals in a span of three minutes. At 10:01, Trazana Brown (Randolph, MA) was set up by Brooke Whitney (Snohomish, WA) to put the Huskies on top 2-0. Just 25 seconds later, Lindsay Ball (Victoria, BC) took the puck from the right circle and moved in front and put NU on top 3-0. Dixon would score her first of the game at 13:01, assisted by Whitney.
In the second period, Lorion scored for NU on a slapshot from between the faceoff circles. Kim Greene (Everett, MA) and Erica Archambeau (Pelkie, MI) assisted on the play. Dixon then completed the hat trick with an unassisted goal at 15:32 and her third of the game at 19:13.
The Huskies closed out the scoring with a final goal in the third period. Ball hit senior Julianne Socha (East Longmeadow, MA) crossing the blueline and Socha fired a slapshot for the score at 13:02.
For the game, Northeastern outshot the Terriers 46-5. Senior Jennifer Buckley (Clifton, NY) stopped all six shots she faced for the shutout. Megan Connor (Herndon, VA) played the first two periods for BU, making 22 stops. Christy Benoit (Owatonna, MN) played the final period and stopped 16 of 17 shots she faced.
Since BU is a club team, the game will not count toward the Huskies' overall record. Northeastern is now off until a game Saturday Feb. 23 at Quinnipiac.
