An early Wildcat goal would be all the offense UNH goalie Jen Huggon needed, as the Huskies were shutout for the first time this season in a 1-0 home loss. NU drops to 3-6-1 overall and 1-2-1 in Hockey East action, while New Hampshire won its third straight game and improved to 10-1-1, 3-0-0.
The Huskies had several opportunities to tie the game, including a Brooke White breakaway with four minutes left in regulation that Huggon stopped with her stick. Huggon also stoned Cyndy Kenyon on a partial breakaway in the first, minutes after Vivki Davis scored the game's only goal. Davis had popped a rebound past Husky goalie Chanda Gunn (17 saves) at 2:42 of the first.
Gunn, who was voted the game's third star, was pulled with 40 seconds remaining, and the NU offense produced two late shots but still could not slip anything past Huggon. The shutout was the 17th of her career, a new record at New Hampshire.
Northeastern next takes the ice Saturday, Nov. 23, for a home game against the Bobcats of Quinnipiac.
