Despite outshooting Princeton, 30-23, and being awarded five power plays, Northeastern fell to the Tigers, 6-2, in non-conference action at Hobey Baker Rink Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game, including Gretchen Anderson's score at the 13-second mark. However, the Huskies fought back, taking a 9-4 shot advantage by the end of the period. With seven seconds remaining in the first, freshman Rebecca Paul closed the gap to 2-1 with a goal from Brooke White and Theresa Ella.
The play was even in the second period with each team putting nine shots on net, but neither squad could find the net.
Princeton struck again with two goals in the first seven minutes of the third to take a commanding 4-1 lead. Paul struck again for her second goal of the game at the 13:48 mark to cut the deficit in half, 4-2. White and Lori DiGiacomo assisted.
NU coach Joy Woog called a timeout with 3:05 left in regulation to get the Huskies ready for an all-out rally, but Anderson took the wind out of their sails with her third goal of the game 23 seconds later.
