The Huskies fell to host Providence, 2-0, despite a career-high 46 saves by junior Chanda Gunn, at Schneider Arena Saturday.
Providence got the first goal of the game with 1:47 left in the second period when sophomore Ashley Payton jammed the puck past NU goaltender Chanda Gunn. Sophomore Rush Zimmerman and freshman Gretchen Gottwald each picked up an assist on the goal. The Friars scored again 4:18 into the third period when junior Sarah Youlen stole the puck and skated towards the NU goal and rifled a shot past Gunn for an unassisted short-handed goal.
NU was outshot by Providence, 48-9. The Huskies moved to 7-12-3 overall and 3-6-1 in Hockey East play. Providence goaltender Jana Bugden made nine saves for the Friars, moving her record to 10-4-5 on the year, improving PC to 12-5-6 overall and 7-0-1 in Hockey East play.
The Huskies return to action on Sunday, January 26 when they host Providence in the second half of their home-and-home series at Matthews Arena at 2:00 p.m
