Despite outshooting Wayne State 37-16, Northeastern was unable to muster any offense and was shut out for the fifth time this season, losing 2-0 on Friday at Matthews Arena.
The Huskies fall to 7-14-2, while the Warriors improve to 8-12-1.
NU was not able to capitalize on four power-play chances and could not get the puck past Wayne State goalie Anna VanderMarliere, who stopped all 37 Husky shots, picking up her sixth win and second shutout of the season.
After a scoreless first period, the Warriors got on the board first when defensemen Krissy Langley fired a shot from the blue line that was deflected in by Katie Jones at the 10:46 mark of the second period. It was Jones’s fifth goal of the season.
The Warriors struck again at 1:01 into the third period when Emily McGrath was able to get her stick on the puck and trickle it past Marisa Hourihan for the goal. Jones and Langley each picked up an assist on the goal. Hourihan finished with 14 saves in her third start of the season.
The Huskies pulled the goalie with 1:32 to go in the game, but the Warriors were able to hold on for the win. The two teams will sqaure off again on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Matthews Arena.
