Kerri Sanders scored on a redirected shot seven minutes into the third period to break a 2-2 tie and lift Boston College to a thrilling, 3-2, victory over Northeastern in the 25th Annual Beanpot at Harvard's Bright Center Tuesday night. The Huskies (7-16-2, 3-8-1 HEA) lost for the first time to the Eagles (10-12-3, 1-6-3) since the 1980-81 season, snapping a 55-game unbeaten streak in the all-time series between the schools. NU now leads the series 53-2-2. Northeastern will face the loser of the Harvard/Boston University game in the consolation game Tuesday, Feb. 11 at the Bright Center (5 p.m.). Sanders redirected Sara Engwall's shot past Gunn 7:16 into the third period for a 3-2 advantage. Immediately following the goal, the Huskies picked up their intensity and put constant pressure on the Eagles in their end. Rebecca Paul and Lori DiGiacomo both were denied on good scoring opportunities. With 1:29 left in the game, NU pulled its goalie for an extra skater. Lori DiGiacomo teed up a shot from the top of the circle that was stopped by Davis. Then, Brooke White tried to punch the puck past Davis, but the goalie wouldn't surrender the game-tying goal and held on for the win. After a scoreless first period, the Huskies didn't waste any time getting on the board in the second. Freshman Theresa Ella fired a one-timer from the top of the circle past BC netminder Vicky Davis to give NU a 1-0 advantage at 1:42 of the second period. Lindsay Snider assisted on the goal. Jaclyn Kryzak answered for the Eagles, scoring on a breakaway at 7:56 of the period to knot the game at 1. Kryzak took a long pass from Lindsey Bazzone and skated in uncontested on Gunn, slipping the puck between her legs. At 14:11 of the second, BC took a 2-1 lead when Sarah Courtney went top shelf just outside the crease for her third goal of the season. In the waning moments of the second period, Greene collected a pass from Nancy Collins in front of the net, was denied on her initial shot, but stuck with the play and netted a goal on the rebound at 19:27 to even the game at 2 entering the break. The Huskies doubled-up the Eagles in shots through two periods, leading 21-10, but BC was able to make the most of its opportunities. Attendance:214 Start time:5:00 End time:7:00 Total time:2:00
