Karen Droog scored 1:59 into overtime to lift visiting Maine to a 2-1 victory over Northeastern in Hockey East action at Matthews Arena Sunday afternoon.

In overtime, Droog found the puck in a scramble in front of the Husky net, then turned and fired the puck toward the goal and past NU goalie Chanda Gunn (25 saves) for the game-winner.

The Huskies, who took the season series 2-1, fall to 9-17-2 and 4-9-1 in the conference. Maine improves to 9-13-4 and 2-8-2.

Northeastern had a couple of great opportunities to end the game in regulation, but Maine goalie Lara Smart (28 saves) made two great stops for force overtime.

Rebecca Paul connected with Lori DiGiacomo across the ice in the Black Bear end. DiGiacomo sent a crisp shot at the net, but Smart managed to get across the crease in time for the save with two minutes remaining in regulation. With 30 seconds left, freshman Cyndy Kenyon was stopped on a breakaway, when she tried to sneak the puck through Smart's legs.

Kenyon scored her second goal in as many games when she rifled a shot into the upper-left corner of the net past Smart for the equalizer with 3:45 remaining in the second period. DiGiacomo skated the puck over the Husky blue line before releasing it to Paul down the left wing. Paul slipped a pass on the tape of Kenyon's stick between the circles and Kenyon ripped the shot under the crossbar.

Minutes before Kenyon registered her goal, Gunn came up with three outstanding saves. Meagan Aarts skated in uncontested and wristed a shot off Gunn's pads. Jarin Sjogren tried to put in the rebound, but Gunn was able to get a piece of the puck, which deflected back to Aarts. Gunn then made a diving save across the net to thwart Aarts' second attempt.

Maine jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Tristan Desmet banged in a rebound for a power-play goal just 1:19 into the game. The play was back-and-forth throughout the first 20 minutes with each team getting eight shots on goal.
