Despite 34 saves from junior goalie Chanda Gunn, the Huskies lost a heartbreaker, 1-0, to Connecticut in Hockey East action at Matthews Arena Friday night.
Northeastern struggled offensively over the first 40 minutes of play, getting outshot by UConn, 24-13. However, the Huskies came out strong in the third period, putting 11 shots on net. The Huskies had a great scoring opportunity when Jen Beaudoin broke in on a 2-on-1, but was denied by Katilyn Shain, who finished with 24 saves for UConn.
UConn’s Kim Berry scored the game-winner 16:37 into the third when she took a pass from Angie Wallace and slipped it past Gunn.
The loss jeopardizes NU’s playoff hopes as they are now tied with Connecticut for the final playoff spot in the Hockey East with no conference games remaining. The Huskies now stand at 4-10-1 overall and 9-18-2 in Hockey East play this season.
