Senior Pamela Pachal scored her second goal of the season to give 10th-ranked Northeastern a 1-0 lead in the second period, but seventh-ranked St. Lawrence rallied with two third period goals to escape Matthews Arena with a 2-1 victory Sunday afternoon.
The Saints remained unbeaten on the season, improving to 3-0-1, while the Huskies fall to 1-3-0.
Northeastern junior Chanda Gunn made 37 saves, including a breakaway attempt. Rachel Barrie stopped 17 shots for St. Lawrence.
The evenly matched teams played nearly 40 minutes of scoreless hockey, before Pachal put NU ahead 1-0 with 22 seconds remaining in the second period. Defenseman Rebecca Peters lifted the puck out of the Husky end. Senior Brooke White collected the pass and skated across the blueline, before flipping the puck to Pachal as she raced toward the net to knock it past Barrie.
The Saints managed to knot the game at 1 with a power-play goal from Gina Kingsbury at 8:49 of the third period. Kingsbury's initial shot near the crease was denied by Gunn, but she couldn't hang on to the rebound, which Kingsbury knocked in. Trisha Powers and Emilie Berlinguette were credited with assists.
Rebecca Russell took a pass from Kingsbury and slipped it past Gunn with 7:20 remaining in the game for the game-winner.
Northeastern missed out on two power-play opportunities, while St. Lawerence capitalized on 1 of 5.
