Senior Kim Greene scored two goals to lift Northeastern to its first ever Hockey East victory, as the Huskies defeated Connecticut, 3-1, at UConn Ice Arena in Storrs Sunday afternoon.
NU avenged yesterday's 2-1 overtime loss to UConn and improved to 2-4-1 on the season with the win. Northeastern is 1-1-1 in HEA action. Connecticut falls to 3-5 and 1-1.
The two teams skated evenly through the first period until Northeastern pulled ahead on a goal at the 18:02 mark. Greene slotted the puck from the right side into the back left corner to give the NU Huskies the advantage at the period’s end.
UConn's Sara Mahoney evened the score 32 seconds into the second period on shot from in front of the net. Northeastern went ahead when Rebecca Paul one-timed a rebound from the left side of the net at the 9:33 mark. Northeastern widened the gap in the first minute of the third period on Greene’s second goal and completed the day’s scoring.
Northeastern's Chanda Gunn stopped 31 shots for the victory, while Connecticut’s Shannon Murphy made 18 saves.
