The Huskies couldn't overcome a 3-0 second-period deficit, falling 3-2 to host Niagara in a non-conference contest at Dwyer Arena Friday.
Trailing 3-0, senior Kim Greene netted her team-high fifth goal of the season to put the Huskies on the board 15:35 into the second period.
Northeastern went on the attack in the third period, outshooting the Purple Eagles 19-3, but couldn't break goalie Jennifer Mascaro's armor again until 42 seconds remained in the game. Danielle Keefe scored her first goal of the season at 19:18 of the third after Husky head coach Joy Woog pulled NU netminder Chanda Gunn with 1:27 left in the period.
Gunn stopped 26 shots for the Huskies, while Mascaro finished with 30 saves.
Northeastern couldn't convert on any of its four power-play opportunities. The teams will meet again on Saturday in Niagara at 1 p.m.
