New Hampshire converted two first-period power plays, while goalie Melissa Bourdon stopped 27 shots in net, as Northeastern was shut out for the first time this season, 5-0, at the hands of the Wildcats in Hockey East action at Matthews Arena Saturday afternoon.
UNH improved to 6-2-2 overall and 3-0-1 in Hockey East play, while the Huskies dropped to 6-3-2 and 0-2-1.
Stephanie Jones scored her sixth goal of the year on an UNH power play at 10:48 of the first stanza to break a scoreless tie. The Wildcats took advantage of another power play eight minutes later when Carolyn Gordon potted her fifth goal of the season.
Although UNH held a 2-0 advantage on the scoreboard, the Huskies outshot the Wildcats, 15-9, in the period.
Gordon added another goal in the second period of action to give the Wildcats a 3-0 edge.
Lindsey Hansen and Lindsey Caleo both added third-period, power-play goals.
