Northeastern freshman Amy Goodney scored with 1:39 left in regulation to earn a 1-1 tie with visiting Connecticut in Hockey East action at Matthews Arena Saturday night.
Northeastern extended its unbeaten streak to seven wins and is now 10-5-7 overall and 4-3-3 in Hockey East play. Connecticut is 7-13-4 and 3-4-2.
With NU trailing 1-0 late in the third period, sophomore defenseman Rebecca Peters hit freshman Marie Desrosiers with a pass up the ice. Desrosiers, who had a goal and two assists in NU's 3-0 win over UConn the night before, skated into the zone and sent a perfect cross ice pass to Goodney for a one-timer that clanged off the inside of the left post and into the net for the equalizer.
Neither team had a good scoring opportunity in the extra session and only Connecticut managed a shot on net in OT.
After two scoreless periods, UConn's Sara Mahoney scored from close range just 56 seconds into the third period to give Connecticut a 1-0 advantage.
NU freshman Melissa Wigmore almost tied the game four minutes later on a shorthanded breakaway, but UConn sophomore goalie Shannon Murphy (18 saves) turned away her backhander.
Northeastern senior goalie Chanda Gunn, who leads the nation in save percentage, turned away 18 shots.
