The Huskies stole a point on the road in their Hockey East season opener, skating to a 1-1 tie with fourth-ranked Providence at Schnedier Arena Thursday night. Senior goalie Chanda Gunn matched a career-high 46 saves for Northeastern (1-1-1, 0-0-1 HEA), while Jana Bugden made 14 stops for Providence (1-0-2, 0-0-1 HEA). After falling behind 1-0 in the first stanza, Northeastern mounted a strong comeback in the second period. The Huskies hard work paid off midway through the period, when freshman Marie Desrosiers scored her second goal of the season to knot the game at 1. Sophomore Cyndy Kenyon assisted on the goal to extend her three game point streak. Providence junior Rush Zimmerman opened the with a firt-period, power-play goal. Zimmerman knocked in a rebound off a shot by Hilary Greaves, who earned an assist on the play, along with Meredith Roth. In overtime, neither team was able to generate much pressure, as they combined for five shots on goal.
