Senior Chanda Gunn stopped 40 shots in goal for Northeastern, but host Providence found the net six times for a 6-0 decision in Hockey East action Saturday afternoon at Schneider Arena.
The Huskies drop to 13-10-8 overall and 7-7-4 in Hockey East play. The Friars improve to 16-13-2 and 11-5-1. The Huskies are tied with Maine for the third-seed in the Hockey East tournament with two games remaining on their schedule, Providence Sunday at Matthews (2 p.m.) and New Hampshire Saturday at Matthews (2 p.m.). The Black Bears wrap up their season Sunday against Connecticut.
Providence outshot Northeastern, 46-12. The Huskies went 0-for-1 on the power play, while the NU penalty-kill unit stopped 6-of-7 PC man-advantages.
