Freshman Mia Mucci fired in a goal 1:47 into overtime to lift the 10th-ranked Huskies to a 1-0 victory over visiting Clarkson in non-conference action at Matthews Arena Friday night.
The goal was Mucci's first of her collegiate career. Freshmen linemates Crystal Rochon and Marie Desrosiers assisted on the play. Desrosiers won the face off at the right circle and Rochon deflected the puck to Mucci in the right slot. Mucci slipped a one-timer to the near post to beat Clarkson netminder Kira McDonald (28 saves).
Northeastern extended its unbeaten streak to eight games and improved its record to 6-1-2. The Golden Knights drop to 5-3-1.
Husky sophomore goalie Katy Augustyn made 13 stops for her second career shutout and kept her record unblemished at 4-0-0.
Augustyn was tested early in the third period, after only making two saves in the second stanza. Clarkson's Kate Allgood skated in on a breakaway five minutes into the final frame, but Augustyn stood her ground and stonewalled the Golden Knight's captain.
Both teams were 0-for-3 on the power play. NU held a 29-13 shot advantage for the game.
