Northeastern lost a heartbreaker Saturday afternoon falling to Maine 3-2 in overtime. Sonia Corriveau of netted two goals for Maine including the game winner two minutes into the overtime period. Junior goaltender Marisa Hourihan turned in another great performance finishing with 45 saves including three in OT. Northeastern falls to 2-12-1 on the season after dropping their sixth consecutive game. Maine is now 6-5-2 on the year.

Hourihan looked spectacular in the early going stopping all 18 shots she faced in the first period including a diving save to stop Maine from converting on their power play chance. Northeastern got on the scoreboard first thanks to Lori DiGiacomo's second goal of the season. With the Huskies on a power play Nikki Petrich gave the puck to Crystal Rochon who slid a backhand pass to a wide-open DiGiacomo who put it in the back of the net. The Huskies took the one-goal lead into the second period.

Hourihan was under fire again in the second period stopping 16 Black Bear shots. Maine had two more power play opportunities put could not convert. Jennifer Beaudoin went down with an injury to her shoulder in the second period, which left the Huskies with only one true defensemen on the roster. Late in the period with Maine on their fifth power play chance they were finally able to beat Hourihan. With 25 seconds left in the period Maine's Tristan Desmet put a shot on goal that Hourihan appeared to cover with her glove. The referee did not blow the whistle and Desmet was able to poke the puck lose and score Maine's first goal.

The teams entered the third period tied at 1-1. Early in the third period Lori DiGiacomo found Jessica Coppney in front of the net for an easy goal to give the Huskies the lead. The goal was Coppney's first of the season and the assist gave DiGiacomo her first multiple point game of the year. Northeastern's lead did not last very long as Sonia Corriveau scored four minutes later to tie the game at 2-2. Northeastern had a golden opportunity in the third period to take the lead back when Maine was called for three penalties in a two-minute span. With a 5-3 advantage the Huskies could not score on Maine's Rachel Gettings and the game went into overtime.

Maine appeared to score the game winner only 20 seconds into the overtime period but the goal was overturned by the referee. However, at the 2:51 mark Sonia Corriveau scored her second of the game and fifth of the season to give Maine the sweep of the weekend series.

Northeastern will face New Hampshire next Thursday at Matthews Arena. The game is scheduled to start at 7 pm.
