| 2004-05 Schedule/Results Providence 3, Northeastern 1
The Huskies kept it even late into the third period but No. 10 Providence scored a pair of goals in the final five minutes to beat NU, 3-1, on Saturday at Schneider Arena. The Huskies fall to 3-16-1 and 2-7-0 Hockey East with the loss, while PC improves to 11-6-4 and 6-0-1. The Huskies had a 1-0 lead after the first period, and the score was tied 1-1 with with under five minutes to go. However, the puck luck went to the Friars as they scrored two goals with under five minutes remaining in the game to clinch the win. Marisa Hourihan was fabulous in goal and stopped 42 of 45 Friar shots (.933 save percentage). Looking for their first road win of the season, the Huskies came out flying in the first period. The game started even with each team getting scoring opportunities. Marie Desrosiers took a pass from the right corner of the NU zone and took a shot from behind the Providence blue line. The puck went over the shoulder of PC goalie, Lauren Florio, and into the top of the net. The Huskies held on to that lead through the end of the first, killing a 5-on-3 penalty. The second period belonged to the Friars. After an NU penalty, PC's Rachel Crissy scored her third goal of the season on a power play at 3:34. It was chipped in just outside the crease from Karen Thatcher. Providence outshot the Huskies 18-4 in the period, but NU held the Friars to just that goal and it was 1-1 after two periods. The Friars dominated again in the third period, but were met with a pesky NU defense. There were several Friar breakaways in the first 15 mintues but Husky defensemen broke up the plays. DiGiacomo and Jennifer Beaduoin made some amazing diving efforts to clear the puck away from the goal. At 15:58, the Friars finally penetrated the Husky defense. Rush Zimmerman took a pass from Cherie Hendrickson and put the puck in the net. Just over three minutes later, the Friars' Hilary Greaves shot a one-timer past Hourihan to clinch the victory for Providence. "They are the number two team in our conference, and the game could have gone either way right up to the final minutes," said Stephanie Wood. Providence coach Bob Deraney only had praise and good words to give his opponent. "Northeastern could have easily won this game today. They come at you and they keep continuing to come at you. I thought Marisa Hourihan had a fabulous game today. They played extremely hard and created some tremendous opportunities for themselves. I think we are very fortunate to come out with a win today. I expect tomorrow to be an even bigger dogfight." The Huskies and Friars were scheduled to play at Matthews Arena on Sunday but the game was postponed due to weather conditions. The game has been rescheduled for Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Hockey Game Box Score (Final)
