The Harvard women dominated the Huskies from start to finish, and the Crimson advanced to the Beanpot final next week by a lofty score of 9-1. It was arguably NU's toughest loss of the season. 13 Harvard players tallied points for the night. Leading the way were Jennifer Raimondi (3-1-4) and Patty Kazmaier, finalist Nicole Corriero (2-2-4). Patty Kazmaier finalist, Julie Chu, added a goal and two assists.
On the Northeastern front, Chrissy Sands netted her second goal of the season with 1:00 left in the game to put NU on the scoreboard. She was assisted by Meredith Miller, who tallied the first point of her career. In goal, Hourihan had to battle the flu along with 51 Harvard shots, so she was not at her peak performance. She also stopped a penalty shot.
"I was really disappointed with the way the team played," said head coach Laura Schuler after the game. "Harvard is an excellent team, and they capitalized on those mistakes. After the first period, I went into the locker room and said 'Where is the team I've been coaching?' They played better in the second (period)."
The NU women will try and settle for third place in the consolation game next Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. against BU. The Huskies play one game this weekend at Boston College on Saturday at 2 p.m. NU has taken two of the first three games, with each team undefeated on their home ice.
"Harvard is a great team, but I wish we could have given them a better game," said Schuler.
NU will look to bring their better game to BC, and can leap to just a point behind fourth place in Hockey East with BC and Maine if they win and the Black Bears lose to No. 8 UNH.
