Junior goalie Marisa Hourihan made 53 saves, but the Huskies fell to seventh-ranked New Hampshire, 8-0, on Wednesday at the Wittemore Center in Durham, N.H. The Huskies dropped to 1-4-0 overall and 0-1-0 in Hockey East, while New Hampshire improved to 7-0-0 overall and 3-0-0 in league play.
Hourihan made 18 stops in the first period, 16 in the second and 19 in the third. But Hourihan couldn't plug the Wildcat offense, which ranks first in the league with 4.71 goals per game.
Northeastern managed 18 shots, and Wildcat goalie Brittany Busa was up to the task, stopping all 18 for her first career shutout.
The Huskies were plagued by penalties, taking nine for 18 minutes in the game. New Hampshire scored three power-play goals. Northeastern went 0-for-4 in power plays.
New Hampshire's Jennifer Hitchcock had a hat trick, and Lindsay Hansen and Jackie Wedster had two goals each. Leah Craig also scored.
Northeastern returns to Matthews Arena to play St. Lawrence on Saturday and Clarkson on Sunday. Both games begin at 2 p.m.
