The Huskies fell to 1-5-0 on the season with a 2-1 loss to Clarkson on Sunday at Matthews Arena. Clarkson raised its record to 3-2-3 for the year. Northeastern led going into the third period but could not close the deal.
Northeastern got the scoring started in the second period when Amy Goodney scored her first goal of the season. Crystal Rochon took a shot from the blue line that Clarkson goalie Kira McDonald could not handle. The puck bounced loose and freshman Nikki Petrich pushed it to assistant captain Amy Goodney for the first goal of the game.
The Huskies one goal lead was kept intact due to an excellent start for goalie Marisa Hourihan. Hourihan was amazing in the second period stopping 23 shots. Hourihan's 23 saves in one period ties the all-time Husky record set by Chanda Gunn last year. Hourihan finished the game with 42 saves giving her 3 consecutive games with 40+ saves.
Clarkson was able to tie the game early in the third period with an even-strength goal by Emma Madigan with an assist from Amanda Dittmer. The game remained tied for most of the third period until Katie Morrison scored an unassisted goal. The Huskies had an opportunity with 5 minutes to play in the game. Clarkson commited two penalties and gave Northeastern a 5-3 advantage for over a minute. The Huskies could not capatilize and lost their third game in a row.
The Huskies will travel to Ohio State for a weekend series against the Buckeyes next weekend. They will play on Saturday and Sunday with both games starting at 2:00 p.m.
