The Huskies skated to a 1-1 tie against Ohio State on Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink in Columbus, OH. The tie breaks Northeastern's 3 game losing streak and brings the season record to 1-5-1. This was the first tie of the season for Ohio State as well bringing its record to 5-5-1.
Ohio State got on the board early with a power play goal by four minutes into the game. The goal was the fourth on the season for Jana Harrigan. She was assisted on the play by senior Jeni Creary and sophomore Amber Bowman.
The score remained the same until late in the third period. The Huskies pulled their goalie in favor of an extra attacker with less than a minute to play. With 40 seconds left on the clock Northeastern was able to even the score thanks to a goal by sophomore Stephanie Wood. Senior captain Lori Digiacomo and assistant captain Amy Goodney assisted on the play.
With the scored tied the teams went into overtime but were unable to decide a winner. Marisa Hourihan stopped four shots in the overtime period to preserve the tie giving her 28 saves for the game.
The Buckeyes held the lead for 55 minutes during the game and held the Huskies to just 14 shots but could not seal the deal.
The Huskies will face off against the Buckeyes tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
