| 2006-07 Schedule/Results Northeastern 2, Vermont 1
Sophomore Brenna Frost scored her first collegiate goal 11:18 into the second period that turned out to be the game-winner as the Northeastern women's hockey team defeated Vermont, 2-1, on Senior Day on Sunday afternoon at Matthews Arena. Freshman Sydney Arbelbide made 20 saves to earn her second career victory, while Vermont's Jenilee Roy made 38 saves in a losing effort. With the win, NU (5-25-2, 3-13-2 Hockey East) stays two points behind Maine for sixth place in the Hockey East standings, while Vermont falls to 3-25-2 (1-17-1 Hockey East) with the loss. The weekend sweep was the Huskies' first two-game winning streak since NU defeated Vermont in the final two conference games of the 2005-06 season. The Huskies outshot Vermont, 17-6, in the first period and scored the only goal of the opening stanza. With Frost in the penalty box for tripping, freshman Chelsey Jones intercepted a UVM outlet pass in the high slot and went in alone on Roy, beating Roy high. Jones' goal, her 15th tally of the season, was her first career shorthanded goal and second of the season for the Huskies. The Huskies had another good opportunity at the 9:35 mark, when freshman Ginny Berg took a shot from the point that Roy got a piece of, but the puck trickled past her towards the net. Senior Crystal Rochon raced to get to the open puck, but her attempt brushed against the post and out. The second period saw plenty of back-and-forth action, but Northeastern notched the only goal of the period. At the 11:18 mark, Frost found the puck through a crowd in the UVM crease and barely forced the puck into the back of the net. The puck caromed off the right post and just over the goal line. With the goal, Frost became the 19th and final Husky skater currently on the roster to record a goal this season. Vermont had its chances in the second period but could not score. Two minutes in, defenseman Kari Furlani took the rebound of a Frankie Williams shot and dinged the post. Later in the period and while the Catamounts were shorthanded, Jackie Thode broke in down the right side and rung a slap shot off the near post and across the goal mouth. The Catamounts pressured the Huskies in the final period, scoring the period's only goal and nearly tying the game. Early in the period, Kristi Anderson took a shot that popped off Arbelbide's shoulder and behind her, but the NU netminder dove to catch the puck in the air before it could cross the line. At the 8:42 mark, Stephanie Tewksbury spun around from the top of the left circle and beat Arbelbide five-hole for Vermont's first goal. The Catamounts continued to put pressure on NU, pulling Roy with 40 seconds remaining and firing a pair of shots from close range, but Arbelbide held firm to preserve the win. Arbelbide made 20 saves to earn her second collegiate victory in as many days. Roy played very well for UVM in the loss, making 38 saves. The Huskies outshot the Catamounts, 40-21, marking the second consecutive game that the Huskies recorded 40 shots. Northeastern will look for the team's first three-game winning streak since the end of the 2005-06 season when the Huskies complete their 2006-07 season on Saturday, as the Huskies travel across town to Walter Brown Arena to take on Boston University at 3 p.m. Hockey Game Box Score (Final)
