| 2007-08 Schedule/Results Northeastern 2, Wayne State 6
The Huskies were unable to gain momentum from their win over Providence earlier in the week and fell to the Wayne State Warriors 6-2 at Matthews Arena on Saturday. Sam Poyton registered a hat trick for WSU and added two assists. Chelsey Jones and Alyssa Wohlfeiler tallied the Northeastern goals. The scoring got started in the first period when NU's Lori Antflick was whistled for high sticking at 2:31, giving the Warriors a powerplay opportunity on which they capitalized. Poyton beat Husky goalie Leah Sulyma for her seventh score of the season, with Lindsay DiPietro and Danielle Wilson assisting. DiPietro followed it up with an unassisted goal two minutes later. Poyton scored the second of her three goals at 8:51 with assists from Wayne State's leading scorer Melissa Boal and Lindsay DiPietro. Before the end of the first frame, the Huskies got on the board thanks to Jones' fourth powerplay goal of the season and her fifth overall. WSU's Chelsea Burnett was called for hooking and the Huskies' seized the man-advantage opportunity. Katy Applin added her career-best sixth assist, while Nikki Petrich earned her fourth assist of the campaign. The Warriors lit the lamp twice more in the second period, both goals coming from Boal, who now has 13 on the season. DiPietro assisted on Boal's first goal while Poyton assisted on both scores. The score was 5-1 at the end of the second period. Poyton struck again in the third, completing her hat trick. Tina Vanderhoeven assisted on the goal, the sixth and final of the game for Wayne State. A scary moment came for the Huskies when Burnett bodychecked Kristi Kehoe who fell to the ice and remained there for a few minutes. Eventually Kehoe got up and was helped off the ice by a trainer while Burnett was sent to the penalty box. The Huskies would get another goal before the end of regulation with 22 seconds left on the clock. Wohlfeiler tapped a pass from Jones past WSU goalie Tiffany Thompson for the Huskies' second goal of the game. Petrich also recorded an assist on the play. The four goal deficit proved too much to overcome, and the Huskies left with their seventh loss of the season. Senior goalie Sarah Belliveau took over the goaltending duties for Northeastern for the third period, replacing Sulyma who was handed her fifth loss of the season. Belliveau played the entire period, allowing one goal and making 13 saves. Sulyma allowed five goals and made 15 saves. The Huskies and Warriors resume action Sunday afternoon at Matthews Arena starting at 2 p.m.
