| 2007-08 Schedule/Results Northeastern 2, Wayne State 7
Wayne State completed its sweep of the weekend series with its 7-2 win over the Huskies on Sunday at Matthews Arena. Melissa Boal registered a hat trick for the Warriors, giving her 16 goals on the season. Lindsay Berman and Chelsey Jones scored goals for the Huskies. Overall, the Huskies played a much better first period than in game one, killing both of the Warriors' powerplay opportunities and making some great defensive plays. Goalie Sarah Belliveau, who replaced Leah Sulyma for the third period in Saturday's contest, made a spectacular save on Sam Poyton who had broken away to a one-on-one. Poyton faked right then tried to sneak the puck past Belliveau who quickly broke to the left and stopped the puck as it neared the left post. The Huskies would not be able to hold off Wayne State's powerful offense for long, and with four minutes left in the first period WSU's Janet Babchishin recorded her first goal of the season with help from Emily Berzins and captain Ashley King. Wayne State's potent line of Poyton, Lindsay DiPietro and Melissa Boal connected for the Warriors' second goal with seconds left to play in the first frame. Melissa Boal notched her team-leading 14th goal while DiPietro (15) and Poyton (10) picked up the assists. The Huskies got one back in the second period when Lindsay Berman grabbed a cross pass from Alyssa Wohlfeiler and put it high in the right corner of the net over WSU goalie Tiffany Thompson to make it a one-goal game. Chelsey Jones registered an assist on the play. The Warriors then proceeded to put on an offensive showcase, scoring three more times in the second period.Ginny Berg was whistled for hooking at 10:37, giving the Warriors a man-advantage on which they capitalized. Poyton recorded the goal while DiPietro and Boal had the assists. After a pair of penalties on both teams, Tina Vanderhoeven and Boal again found net, making the score 5-1 at the end of the second. The Huskies did have some opportunities, including a Chelsey Jones shot that hit the post, but could not seem to find any offense. Jones got it started for the Huskies in the third period, scoring her sixth goal of the season. Cassie Sperry had the puck behind the net and passed it out in front to Jones, who was positioned directly in front of the net. Jones then took a shot that landed in the highest part of the net just making it under the crossbar for NU's second goal. Jones now has four points in the last two games (2-2-4). Wayne State answered back with two more goals, Boal's third of the game, and one from Emily Berzins, her second of the season. The Huskies could not come back from the five-goal deficit and fell 7-2. NU was outshot by Wayne State 39-16.Despite the final score, Belliveau performed admirably in net, making 32 saves. Up next, the Huskies visit Boston College on Friday night beginning at 7 p.m., for a Hockey East showdown. Wayne State (6-4-0, 0-0-0 CHA) vs. Northeastern (1-8-1, 1-1-0 HEA)
