Northeastern went into Saturday's game with Vermont looking for its second-straight win After a scoreless first period in which both goalies, Kristen Olychuck for Vermont and Leah Sulyma for the Huskies, stopped seven shots apiece, both teams got on the board in the second.

Northeatern struck first, when Ali Bielawski redirected a hard shot from Katy Applin past Olychuck at 15:53 in the second. It marks Bielawski's second goal of the season and she has now scored in the Huskies' last two games.

Vermont answered back with under a minute remaining, thanks to the third strike of the season from Brittany Nelson, tying the game at one apiece. Chelsea Furlani earned an assist on the play, her second helper of the season.

The Huskies and Catamounts headed into the final frame tied 1-1. At 5:49 Vermont's Kate Lesniack was whistled for body-checking, setting up a Husky powerplay.

With the Huskies putting the offensive pressure on, Lindsay Berman made a pass from the left side to Petrich who wrapped the puck around the post and past Olychuck to put the Huskies up 2-1. Kristi Kehoe was also credited with an assist on the play. Petrich's goal marks her team-leading ninth of the season. With her assist on the play, Berman reaches a new career season-high in assists (eight) and total points (11).

At 10:44 in the period, Husky assistant captain Erin Reil was given a five minute major and a game misconduct for hitting from behind. Four minutes later Ginny Berg was sent to the box for a tripping minor. Despite a five-on-three advantage for Vermont, the Huskies held on for a strong penalty kill, leading to their third win of the season.

Both team's goalies played exceptionally well in the contest, making some spectacular saves. Olychuck stopped 21 of 23 Northeastern shots, while Sulyma made 20 saves for the win.

With the win, the Huskies improve to 3-9-1 on the season and pull even at 2-2-0 in Hockey East play.Up next they will host Hockey East rival, No. 1 New Hampshire, at Matthews Arena Sunday at 4 p.m.
