The women's hockey team could not continue its momentum heading into Sunday's league matchup with Maine and fell to the Black Bears 4-1.
The first period proved to be a battle of the goalies as Maine's Genevieve Turgeon made 10 saves in the period, while NU's Leah Sulyma stopped 14 shots. Both teams were scoreless heading into the second period.
Maine finally got on the board at 13:54 when Abby Barton posted her second goal of the season, assisted by Taryn Peacock and Vanessa Vani.
The Huskies' tied it up with under a minute remaining in the frame as junior assistant captain Erin Reil scored her second of the season with an assist from Colleen Sanborn at 19:38.
The Bears netted three unanswered goals in the final period from Taryn Peacock, Pam Patterson and Lexie Hoffmeyer to earn their very first league win of the season, and second overall.
Maine goalie Turgeon finished with 25 saves while Sulyma totaled 39, stopping double-digits in every period. It marks the eight game in a row in which Sulyma has stopped 30+ shots, her 10th overall.
The loss drops the Huskies to 5-14-2 and 4-6-0 in Hockey East play. They head to Durham, N.H., on Jan. 26 to take on the Wildcats at the Whittemore Center.
