The Northeastern Huskies started off the month of February with a strong 1-1, overtime tie with No. 8 Connecticut on Friday at Freitas Ice Forum. Freshman Alyssa Wohlfeiler scored the Huskies' goal, while Samantha Reid posted UConn's tally. NU goalie Leah Sulyma continued her stellar play in net, making 34 saves.
After a nearly scoreless first period, NU got on the board at 19:20 when Wohlfeiler beat Connecticut goalie Brittany Wilson for her fifth goal of the season. She was assisted by Kristi Kehoe (11) and Chelsey Jones (6), both of whom now have two-game point streaks.
Both teams were held scoreless in the second period, thanks to stellar goaltending from Sulyma and Wilson, who had seven and six saves respectively.
Connecticut came out shooting in the third period, blasting Sulyma with 16 shots. Reid was able to get one past the rookie goalie at 09:25 to tie the game at one apiece. Jennifer CHaisson posted the assist on the play.
The NU Huskies could not find net again and ventured into overtime for the fourth time this season. After a scoreless five minutes of play, the game ended in a tie.
Sulyma finished with 34 saves while Wilson made 17 stops for Connecticut.
The tie improves Northeastern to 5-15-3 and 4-7-1 in Hockey East play.
The two teams are back at it again tomorrow afternoon when they face off at Matthews Arena at 4 p.m.
