The Catamounts scored three times in the final period, including an empty-net goal to take a 4-1 win over the Huskies on Friday at Gutterson Field House in Burlington, Vt. Kristi Kehoe scored the Huskies' lone goal.
The teams were scoreless after one period, as NU's Leah Sulyma made nine saves and UVM's Kristen Olychuk made six. Vermont then got on the board first with Teddy Fortin's fifth goal of the season, assisted by Sarah Smiddy and Celeste Doucet, at 01:20 into the second period.
The Huskies tied it up five minutes later, thanks to freshman Kristi Kehoe and her 10th goal of the season at 06:13. Lori Antflick and Chelsey Jones assisted on Kehoe's goal.
UVM's Sarah Ellins scored what turned out to be the game-winner at 02:31 into the third period and Celeste Doucet added a powerplay goal at 17:52.
After Doucet's goal, the Huskies pulled Sulyma and Vermont was able to grab an empty-netter with seven seconds remaining to pull out the win.
Kehoe's goal increases her team-leading point total to 23, while Jones' assist gives her 22 points, including seven in her last six games.
The loss drops NU to 6-22-3 and 5-12-1. The teams are back in action tomorrow at 4 p.m., at Gutterson Field House to decide the season series.
