The BU Terriers outshot Northeastern 44-17 en route to a 2-0 victory over the Huskies on Saturday at Matthews Arena. The win clinches the final Hockey East playoff spot for the Terriers.
Just like in the first meeting between the teams this season, BU came out shooting and pounded NU freshman goalie Leah Sulyma with 22 in the first. Sulyma was able to stop 21 of them but Lauren Cherewyk was able to get one by her at 12:48 in the first. Meanwhile the Huskies only got four shots on BU goalie Allyse Wilcox.
The second period was much more evenly played, with only a slight 10-9 shot advantage for BU. Both goalies were perfect in the period, and the game went into the third period with the score 1-0.
The Terriers finished off the win at 4:24 in the final frame when Melissa Anderson put the puck past Sulyma with help from Holly Lorms.
With two minutes remaining Sulyma was pulled for an extra skater but the Huskies couldn't find the net and left with the loss.
Wilcox made 17 saves for the shutout, while Sulyma finished with 42, the seventh time this season made 40 or more saves, and the 19th time she's had over 30. On the season, Sulyma has amassed a league-high 942 saves, moving her up to second on NU's single-season saves list.
The teams face off again tomorrow at Matthews Arena for the final game of the regular season at 2 p.m.
