| 2007-08 Schedule/Results Sulyma earns second consecutive Hockey East honor
Sulyma helped Northeastern skate a very close game with No. 1 Harvard by making 47 saves against 50 shots in a 3-1 loss in the Beanpot, her career-high in regulation play. Over the weekend, Sulyma made 60 saves in two games against Maine, including 33 of 34 for a 3-1 win on Friday. Sulyma also contributed offensively to Huskies’ cause, registering an assist on Chelsey Jones’ goal in the 3-1 win. With the assist, Sulyma became just the third NU women’s goalie to ever record a point.
Sulyma has started in 24 games for Northeastern this season, posting a record of 6-15-3, a 3.14 goals against average and a .909 save percentage to go along with 730 saves. Sulyma has reached 40 saves five times the season and has registered 30 saves in 14 games, including a streak of eight in a row from Dec. 2- Jan. 26 which tied a school record. Her 730 saves is the second-highest saves total for a freshman, and places her ninth on Northeastern’s single-season saves list.
It is the fourth time Sulyma has been named Hockey East Rookie of the Week. She was previously honored on Dec. 10 after stopping 32 of 33 shots in a 3-1 Northeastern victory over then-No. 9 Boston College, again on Jan. 7 after an 82-save weekend that included a career-high 47 in an overtime, 1-0 loss at Yale, and on Feb. 4 after making 66 saves on 68 shots in two games against No. 8 Connecticut. On Jan. 2, the league selected Sulyma as the Rookie of the Month for December, after posting a 2-1-0 record, .941 save percentage, 2.00 goals against average and 95 saves in three games.
The Inuvik, Northwest Territories, native previously played for St. Albert in 2006-07, recording a 9-2-5 record, a 2.06 goals against average and a .938 save percentage. In the 2007 Canada Winter Games, Sulyma recorded 90-save and 104-save games, helping the team to its first-ever win at the Games. She is a two-time selection to the Canadian National Aboriginal team and a also won a silver and bronze medal at the 2004 and 2006 Arctic Winter Games with her Northwest Territories team.
Northeastern stands at 6-18-3 this season and is 5-9-1 in Hockey East play. The Huskies will Boston College in the consolation game of the 30th Annual Women’s Beanpot Tournament on Tuesday at Walter Brown Arena.
