Chanda Gunn is in her second season on head coach Laura Schuler’s staff. The two-time All-America goaltender rejoins her alma mater this year while continuing to pursue her international hockey career.
The Huntington Beach, Calif., native has been on the U.S. National team since 2002 and has been Team USA’s primary goalie since graduating from NU. Gunn led Team USA to a gold medal at the 2005 IIHF Women’s World Championship and a bronze medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy, as well as a silver medal at the 2007 World Championship.
After transferring to Northeastern from the University of Wisconsin, Gunn spent three seasons writing her name all over the NU record books. In her junior season of 2002-03, Gunn posted a miniscule 1.37 goals against average, which ranked second in the country and third all-time at Northeastern, as well as a Husky-record .950 save percentage that led the nation. That season, Gunn was named a second-team All-American. In her senior season of 2003-04, Gunn once again led the nation with a .938 save percentage. She also posted a 2.06 GAA on her way to Hockey East Player of the Year and first-team All-America honors.
For her career, Gunn ranks first in NU history in career saves (2,447) and save percentage (.936) and holds single-season records for save percentage (.950) and wins (26). She graduated from Northeastern in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training and a minor in Religious Studies.
