Thirteen Huskies named to Hockey East All-Academic team

Thirteen players from the women’s hockey team earned spots on the 2007-08 Hockey East All-Academic Team, the league announced on Wednesday. In order to qualify for the All-Academic team, players must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or better in each semester during which the team competed.

Sophomore Katy Applin led the way for the Huskies, being named to the Hockey East Academic All-Star team after earning a 3.98 GPA, the highest of any defenseman in the league. She was honored as All-Academic after her freshmen season as well.

Northeastern boasts four players who have been named to the All-Academic team for the third time - senior Sarah Belliveau and juniors Ali Bielawski, Missy Elumba and Cassie Sperry. Sophomores Liz Chapman and Chelsey Jones earned spots on the team for the second consecutive year, while freshmen Vanessa Tomchik and Ashley Wiater, sophomores Sydney Arbelbide, Ginny Berg and Annie Hogan, and junior Colleen Sanborn were all first-time honorees.

Northeastern has consistently been on of the top academic teams in Hockey East, as the Huskies have placed nine or more players on the All-Academic Team in each of its six seasons.
