| Huskies sign defenseman Gavronsky to National Letter of Intent
Gavronsky, a 5'9 native of Sherwood Park, Alberta, recently completed a very successful season with the Sherwood Park Fury of the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League. As one of the top scoring defensemen in the AMMFHL and her team’s assistant captain, Gavronsky scored 10 goals and 16 assists for 26 total points as her team advanced to the AMMFHL North Finals. Her stellar play was recognized by the league, as she was named the AMMFHL’s Player of the Month for December. She was also selected to the 2007 Mac’s All-Tournament Team after posting a 2-5-7 scoring line in four games played. Gavronsky was previously selected to Team Alberta for the 2007 Canadian National U18 Championships alongside NU teammate Sam Watt. In the tournament, Gavronsky was a clutch performer for Team Alberta, scoring the game-tying goal and assisting on the overtime game-winning goal in Alberta’s 3-2 victory over Ontario Blue. Overall Gavronsky posted three points in the Championships. "Stephanie is going to help add some more size and strength to our blue line," says Schuler. "She has a strong skill set and knows how to really fire the puck. Stephanie is well liked by her teammates and coaches, and we are really excited to have her come and join our program. We anticipate her complementing our defensive unit nicely." Gavronsky joins former teammate Watt, a member of the Canadian National U18 Team, and Florence Schelling, the Swiss national team goaltender, both of whom signed with the Huskies during the early recruiting period. • Women's hockey signs two top recruits (12/10/07)
