2000-01 Schedule/Results
BOSTON, MA — Northeastern University senior goalie Erika Silva (Middletown, RI/Providence Country Day) continues to reach milestones and set her sights on new ones.
In three games last week, Silva made 115 saves, stopping at least 38 shots in all three outings. She had double-figure save totals in seven of nine periods played. Against Harvard in the championship of the Beanpot, Silva made 39 saves, including 17 in the third period alone to get the Huskies to overtime. She was rewarded for her efforts by receiving the Joe Bertagna Award as the outstanding goalie in the Beanpot. In the Harvard game, Silva went over the 2000 mark for career saves, only the second goalie in Northeastern history to do so. Then in a pair of games on the weekend against Providence, Silva stopped 38 Friar shots in both outings, pushing her season save total over 700. With 710 saves last season to go with 709 this season, Silva is the first goalie in Northeastern history to have two separate seasons with 700 or more saves. Silva’s 710 stops in 1999-00 was the third highest single-season total in NU history, with 709 right behind in fourth place.
Silva is third in the ECAC in games played with 26, and second in both saves and saves per game, averaging 27.3 stops per game. She has made 164 saves in her last five games, an average of 32.8 per game, including more than 38 saves in four of her last five games. For the season, Silva has 10 games with at least 30 saves and four with over 40, not including a 59-save performance in an exhibition against Team USA Feb. 4.
With at least five games remaining, Silva is within reach of both the Northeastern single season and career save records. Both are held by Shannon Meyers (1995-99), who set a Husky record with 775 saves in the 1995-96 season on her way to a career total of 2215.
Silva and the Huskies will play their final two regular season home games this weekend. NU will play sixth-ranked Brown on Saturday and then third-ranked Harvard on Sunday.
