Northeastern erased a 1-0 deficit with two unanswered goals in the first half and hung on the rest of the way to a earn a 2-1 win at Vermont in a key America East game.

The Huskies, fighting for their first-ever America East postseason bid, improved to 4-2 in conference play, while the Catamounts fell to 2-5.

Vermont senior Mardie DiCarlo beat an NU defender and then managed to slip a shot past NU keeper Shellie Parkinson in the ninth minute for a 1-0 UVM edge. The Huskies answered, four minutes later, as Melissa Cohen won a battle with UVM goalie Brooke Fairbanks and knocked a header into the net to make it 1-1.

Co-captain Kate Mercier then scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 30th minute off a nice setup from teammates Jen Herlihy and Lindsey Eberman. Herlihy also assisted on Cohen's goal.

Both teams had solid chances after intermission, but played a scoreless second half. Vermont hit the crossbar twice, while the Huskies had some point-blank shots stopped by Fairbanks. Parkinson earned the win in net, extending her school record for victories in a season to 10.
