| 2000 Schedule/Results Northeastern 5, Iona 0
The Huskies stretched their winning streak to a school record three games as they defeated Iona College 5-0 at Sweeney Field on Saturday afternoon. Northeastern wasted no time in getting on the board, as freshman Tanya Mello scored off a centered pass from Kate Mercier just 26 seconds into the game, to give NU an early 1-0 lead. The goal marked Mello's fourth goal in two games, following her hat-trick against Albany on Sept. 6. With just 13 seconds remaining in the first half, NU junior Caitlin Springer netted her second goal of the season to put the Huskies up 2-0. Fellow junior Michelle Carberry picked up the assist on the play. The second half nearly mirrored the first as Shannon Dwyer put Mercier's rebound in just 1:02 into the second frame. Just over a minute later, Jen Herlihy scored her second goal of the year from Mello. With 1:31 left in the game, freshman Meredith Soble scored her first career goal as a Husky. Amy Devendorf's free kick from midfield was beautifully headed in by Soble, giving the Huskies a 5-0 lead. The victory stretched NU's winning streak and shutout streak to three games, both school records. The Huskies have yet to give up a goal as Rachelle Parkinson and the NU defense have menaced teams all season long. The Huskies next face Rider tomorrow at Middlesex School in Concord at 12 p.m.
