Northeastern tied Manhattan, 1-1, in its season opener on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies got on the board first at the 63:11 mark, when freshman Jessie Haidamaka headed one in on an assist from fellow rookie Jess Pfeifer. It was Haidamaka's first career collegiate goal. Manhattan would knot the score at one when Lauren Zduncyk headed a cross into the net at 73:33.

Northeastern had a two-on-one opportunity in the second overtime, but could not convert. Sophomore Cynthia Slowik made a pair of saves for the Huskies.

Recent rain made field conditions poor and for some sloppy play. "We controlled most of the action and most of the game was played in the Manhattan end, so the result is disappointing," said NU head coach Ed Matz. "The conditions were less than ideal, but both teams had to adjust the field."

NU next takes the field for its home opener, Wednesday Sept. 4 at 6 p.m. as the Huskies host Holy Cross.
