Sophomore Chiara Best scored the only goal of the game, leading New Hampshire to a 1-0 victory over Northeastern at Parsons Field on Friday night. The win raises the Wildcats' record to 7-4 overall and an America East best 3-0 in conference play. Best took a deflected pass in the Northeastern end of the field and turned to find no one in front of her except NU goalie Cynthia Slowik. The sophomore keeper (three saves) came out to the top of the box to knock the ball away, but Best dribbled around her and booted the ball into the empty net at the 42:24 mark for her second goal of the season. "It was a freshman mistake that cost us the goal," Northeastern head coach Ed Matz said. "A space was vacated by one of our players who should have came off the field and that is where the goal was created." The first half was very evenly played, with most of the action taking place within 20 yards of midfield. Neither team had any real scoring threats besides the goal by Best. In the second half, UNH turned up the pressure and started to control the ball in the Northeastern end, but could not benefit with a goal-scoring opportunity. A light rain throughout the contest made for slippery conditions which altered play slightly for both teams. "I thought that we played very well tonight," Matz added. "We just couldn't generate a lot of chances for ourselves." Kristen Ouellette and Elizabeth MacKay combined on the shutout, each playing 45 minutes. The loss is the Huskies' fourth straight and drops their record to 4-6-3 on the season and 0-2-1 in the league. NU has not scored a goal in the last four games, bringing its goal-less drought to a span of 429:33. Northeastern will host Maine on Thursday, Oct. 17 starting at 3 p.m. at Parsons Field. Scoring
