Northeastern defeated Albany 3-0 on Friday night at Parsons Field. NU benefited from two first half goals to improve to 7-7-4 overall and 3-2-2 in America East action. With the win, the Huskies move one step closer to a postseason berth. Sophomore Liz Dyjak started things off in the first half at the 23:16 mark, tallying her second goal of the season. Freshman Jess Pfeifer dribbled down the left side into the corner before lofting a pass in front of the goal in which Dyjak deposited into the back of the net. Just a little over ten minutes later sophomore Jill Link put the Huskies up 2-0. NU pushed the ball upfield and Tanya Mello found Link in front of the net with a nice touch pass and she slid it past Albany goalie Beth Spinelli just inside the right post. "We wanted to come out strong tonight, in which I really think we did," said NU head coach Ed Matz. The Huskies would seal the deal in the second half when freshman Fillipa Petruccelli sent a long lead pass that drew Spinelli out of the box. Sophomore Jen North beat Spinelli to the ball, dribbled around her and found the back of the empty net for her team leading seventh goal of the year. "I thought that we had some really good chances early on and everyone played very well, I am very happy with our effort," Matz would add. NU goalie Cynthia Slowik was rarely tested, making three saves on the only three shots that she faced, while Spinelli made six saves for the Great Danes. With a win on Sunday at home against Vermont, the Huskies will clinch a spot in the America East Women's Soccer Championship. Scoring
