| 2002 Schedule/Results Northeastern 1, Holy Cross 1
Northeastern battled to a 1-1 tie Wednesday night against Holy Cross at Parsons Field. Freshman Jess Pfeifer scored the Huskies' only goal in the first half. Holy Cross answered in the second half when Brandy Ault headed in a corner kick from Lee Hummer. The Huskies came right out of the gate and controlled the pace early on but missed a couple scoring opportunities. Just 12 minutes in, Fillipa Petruccelli had a nice lead pass to fellow freshman Tara McLarney, who beat Holy Cross goalie Christine Arsenault but her shot hit the post and bounced out. NU capitalized later in the first half, though, as Pfeifer took a failed clear attempt and put it in the back of the net to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. Holy Cross really began to gain momentum in the last five minutes before the half as NU goalie Cynthia Slowik had to make three diving stops to keep the Crusaders scoreless. NU had a great chance to jump out to a two-goal lead early in the second half, but sophomore Tanya Mello's shot was just wide as she was one-on-one with Arsenault. The visitors would not be shut out, however, as Ault headed in a nice corner kick from Hummer at the 57:56 mark. Holy Cross had the only real scoring threat in either of the overtime sessions, as in the first extra frame they had three consecutive corner kick attempts, but failed to convert. Coach Ed Matz thought that inexperience was a key factor for the Huskies. "At any given time tonight we had six to seven freshmen on the field. Every game is going to be a learning process for us, but I think that we played very well and will only improve." Northeastern next plays at Memphis on Friday. Scoring
