The Northeastern women’s soccer team picked up its sixth consecutive win on Tuesday, defeating Sacred Heart, 3-0, at Parsons Field.
The Huskies came out slow in the first five minutes but turned it on quickly, controlling the ball offensively throughout most of the first half. After a few great scoring chances, Emma Enstrom finally got Northeastern on the board in the 25th minute, giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead. Freshman Kristen Blake tallied the assist on what proved to be the game-winner.
NU remained tough through the period, and tacked on another goal with just 1:03 on the clock. Sophomore Jessie Haidamaka made a run down the right side of the field, and put a perfect cross to the foot of redshirt freshman Kristin Kowalik, who finished it with a blast to the upper left corner of the net, giving the Huskies a two-goal advantage. The goal was the team-leading ninth of the season for Kowalik, and she has now scored in six .
In the second, junior co-captain Jen North’s shot on goal was punched over the net by Pioneer goalkeeper Leslie Konsig. On the ensuing corner kick, sophomore Jess Pfeifer put a perfect ball to the head of North, who finished the play with a goal to give NU a 3-0 lead at the 58:00 mark.
The Huskies outshot the Pioneers, 21-3. NU goalkeeper Cynthia Slowik posted one save en route to her fifth shutout of the season. She improves to 8-2 on the season has now held opponents scoreless for 518:48 of play.
Northeastern improves to 8-3 overall and stands at 2-0 in the America East. The Huskies have outscored their opponents, 22-2, and have outshot them, 119-29, during the recent winning streak. NU takes it to the road for its next matchup, facing off with America East rival Maine on Friday at 3 p.m.
