It took less than two minutes for Maine to dismantle a six-game winning streak for the Northeastern women’s soccer team, which dropped its first conference decision of the season to the Black Bears on Friday afternoon, 1-0, in Orono.
Senior midfielder Katie Hodge scored the game-winner on a pass from sophomore Angela Clark to lead Maine. The goal also ended junior goalkeeper Cynthia Slowik’s steak of holding opponents scoreless at 520:13.
The early goal shut the Husky offense down early, which only had one shot in the first half. Northeastern came out more aggressive in the second, but couldn’t get any of its shot past Black Bear goalkeeper Tanya Adorno, who made five saves on the day. Maine also had eight shots, while Slowik posted three saves for NU
The Huskies fall to 8-4 overall this season and 2-1 with the loss in America East play. Maine picked up its eighth win of the year, tying the record set in 1996 for wins in a season. The Black Bears are now 8-1-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the conference.
Northeastern stays on the road next week with two America East matchups, including New Hampshire on Monday at 1 p.m., and Vermont on Thursday at 3 p.m.
