The Huskies won their first America East match this season, 4-1, over the Vermont Catamounts Friday afternoon at Centennial Field in Burlington, Vt. Sophomore Kristen Kowalik had her first career hat trick.
Kowalik's first goal came unassisted at 9:34 into the first half. The shot deflected off a defender 10 yards out.
The next goal of the game came from Vermont's Amy Cochran at 46:01 in the second half. She dribbled past defenders and scored off a shot 10 yards out.
Kowalik's next two goals were also unassisted, coming at 65:49 and 77:59. Her first goal of the second half was a 20-yard shot just over the goalie's head. The second came on a breakaway, with the shot blasted into the right corner.
Jen North scored her first goal of the season by rebounding a shot at 80:07.
The Huskies are back in action Sunday in their second conference match. They face Hartford at Al-Marzook Field in West Hartford, Conn.
