The Huskies took their second conference loss of the season Thursday, losing to UMBC, 2-1. Northeastern scored late in the game on a goal from junior Jessie Haidamaka, but it was not enough to overtake the Retrievers.
The first goal of the game came from UMBC freshman J.J. Young at 19:32 into the first half. She followed up that tally with a header into the back of the net off a corner kick at 55:47 in the second to put UMBC up 2-0.
Haidamaka put the Huskies on the board at 77:50 with a shot into the bottom left corner of the goal. It was assisted by sophomore Kristen Kowalik.
Northeastern outshot UMBC, 12-11. Sophomore goalie Mariel Wilner made seven saves for the Huskies while her UMBC counterpart, Robin Babaris, also held off seven shots.
NU (11-5-2) plays at Binghamton at 11 a.m. on Oct. 30 in its last conference matchup before the playoffs begin Nov. 2.
