The women's soccer team won its season opener against Duquesne, 1-0, on Saturday at the Vermont Tournament in Burlington Vt.
Sophomore Jenna Lucchessi came off the bench to score her first collegiate goal in with 10 minutes left in the first half. She blasted the ball over the keeper from 14 yards out to score unassisted.
Northeastern outshot Duquesne 11-9. Sophomores Caitlin Whelan and Emilee Ellison and senior captain Kristin Kowalik took two shots each.
Junior Annie Petrofsky got the start in goal for the Huskies. She made seven saves to get her second career shutout.
Northeastern will face tournament-host Vermont Sunday, Aug. 27 at 2 p.m.
