The women's soccer team improved to 4-1 on the season with a 2-1 win over Saint Joseph's Sunday. Northeastern's substitutions made the difference in the game as redshirt freshman midfielder Liza Rebello came off the bench to score both of NU's goals.
Rebello started the scoring in the 38th minute with an assist from sophomore forward Jenna Lucchesi. The Hawks retaliated less than two minutes later with an unassisted goal from Kimmy Leigh. Leigh shot the ball from 20 yards out just over junior goalie Annie Petrofsky.
The first half ended in a tie but Rebello scored the game winner with just 34 seconds into the second half. Her second goal of the game and third of the season was a blast into the upper left corner, assisted by sophomore midfielder Hanna Olsson.
Junior defender Laura Johnson had another great day in the back field, stepping up to midfield many times to put the ball back into the Hawk's territory.
Petrofsky had four saves on the day, making 31 already this season.
The Huskies are back in action Friday, Sept. 15 against St. Mary's at the Harvard Tournament at 4 p.m. It is the first ever meeting between the two teams.
