The Huskies secured their first home field win Friday night after defeating the University of New Hampshire 3-1 at Parsons Field.
The game was back and fourth until 15:36 when senior Jenna Lucchesi managed to dish the ball off to a charging Gabbi Jatkola who fired a shot over the shoulder of New Hampshire’s Nikki Golding for the first goal of the game.
After the first goal, the Husky defense led by co-captains Brenna Matthews and Emilee Ellison stepped up and only forced freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Gordon to make four saves on the night.
Junior Liza Rebello on a rebound off the post scored the second Husky goal from a shot by Jatkola. The Huskies seemed to be in complete control of the game until 60:20 when New Hampshire’s Sara Hourihan received a pass from Shaunna Kaplan, which she was able to shoot just over the head of Gordon.
Gordon played extremely well when she had to. The game was almost tied as a New Hampshire forward chased down a ball but was met by the charging Gordon who was able to make the save.
The final goal of the night was scored by the speedy freshman Veronica Napoli. Napoli received a long pass from Jatkola and was able to sprint pass the New Hampshire defense and beat the goalie for the teams third goal.
The Husky offense once again managed to outshoot their opponent 10-4 on Friday. They have not been outshoot in any game this season.
The Huskies take their three-game winning streak to Nickerson Field on Sunday to face off against Boston University at 1 p.m.
