The Huskies suffered a 1-0 loss to Boston University Sunday afternoon at Nickerson Field. This loss ended the Huskies three-game winning streak and was also the first time the team had been outshot by their opponent.
The lone goal was scored by Boston University’s Lina Cords who headed the ball off a corner kick from Marisha Schumacher-Hodge at 58:23 in the second half.
Northeastern did not have a shot on net in the first half. The Huskies had a few scoring opportunities late in the game. Most notable was when freshman midfielder Gabbi Jatkola fired a shot towards the corner but BU goalkeeper Janie Reilly was able to dive and deflect the ball out of bounds. After that chance, Liza Rebello had a breakaway with six minutes left but once again Reilly was able to make the stop. The final chance for the Huskies came when Veronica Napoli fired a shot that went just wide of the net with a minute left.
“I think our team played pretty well today,” said coach Ed Matz, “BU is the defending America East champions and I think it showed, they are very seasoned and it took our young team a while to adjust, but once we did, we really put a lot of pressure on.”
Stephanie Gordon recorded five saves on the day.
The Huskies take on the Harvard Crimson Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Cumnock Turf in Allston.
